Outreach and Communication is a core component  of the Arctic Challenge for Sustainability III (ArCS-3) project, responsible for disseminating information about the project’s goals and activities. As the Arctic region undergoes rapid changes due to accelerated global warming, it is increasingly important to share the current state of the Arctic, the significance of conducting research through international collaboration, and, above all, the efforts and achievements of Japanese research teams—both within Japan and to the broader international community.

The official ArCS-3 website serves as the main platform for this outreach. In ArCS-3, we place particular emphasis on real-time communication from the field. A science communicator accompanies research teams on expeditions aboard observation vessels, at Arctic research stations, and at international conferences to provide vivid, firsthand reports. In addition, we aim to offer accessible articles that explain the natural and social dynamics of the Arctic, as well as printed materials such as brochures introducing the project and a booklet highlighting key outcomes to be published later in the project.

Working in close collaboration with all research themes and foundational components, we are committed to communicating the project’s purpose and progress clearly and thoughtfully to audiences both in Japan and abroad. We also actively engage with international researchers and Arctic communities, sharing how Japan’s research initiatives contribute to addressing global Arctic-related challenges.
