Manager: Takashi Kikuchi (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology)
In this project, it is essential to understand environmental changes in the Arctic Ocean, where sea ice reduction caused by global warming is rapidly progressing. We aim to collect data and samples that will help clarify the processes occurring there, evaluate their impacts, and improve future predictions. To support these goals and the strategic objectives of the project, we will conduct observation cruises using the research vessels R/V Mirai, TS Oshoro Maru, and ARV Mirai II. These cruises will facilitate scientific observations, enable open data sharing, and lead to the publication of new findings. In addition to research activities, we will also promote education, public outreach, and the development of human resources by taking advantage of the opportunities provided by these Arctic cruises.
