The 8th International Symposium on Arctic Research (ISAR-8)

The 8th International Symposium on Arctic Research (ISAR-8) was held in Hachioji, Tokyo, to . A total of 385 participants from 29 countries and regions, including Russia, attended, of whom 213 were from Japan, marking the highest number of participants ever for a standalone ISAR event. Numerous researchers from ArCS III also participated, representing a wide range of fields including natural sciences, engineering, and humanities and social sciences.

ISAR-8 featured a total of 276 presentations: 182 oral presentations and 94 poster presentations. The ISAR-8 Young Scientist Poster Awards were presented to five students and young researchers, including Yuri Fukai (JAMSTEC), Masaki Yoshimura (Hokkaido University), and Kenta Tamura (NIED), all participating in ArCS III.

Eleven booths (seven corporate and four research-related) were set up at the venue, showcasing technologies and research projects. At the ArCS III booth, the project overview was introduced through posters, and videos about the Arctic and ArCS III were screened, along with the distribution of informational materials. In addition, visitors were invited to write their “expectations for ArCS III research and its outputs” on sticky notes and post them at the booth. This activity facilitated broad exchanges of opinions on future Arctic research, international collaboration, and human resource development. The exhibition served as an effective platform for disseminating information and exchanging insights both domestically and internationally.
