Title:Shipborne measurements of mineral dust and black carbon aerosols over the Southern Ocean in the austral summer

A Message from the Award Recipient
Atmospheric mineral dust and black carbon aerosols in remote oceans are difficult to measure because of their low concentrations. In this study, we used a new method to quantify these aerosols over the Southern Ocean and investigated their spatial distribution. In the future, we plan to apply this method to aerosol samples collected during Mirai research cruise and samples to be obtained during upcoming Arctic expeditions, such as Mirai II, to understand the abundance and climate impacts of aerosols in the Arctic region.
